On August 9-11, 2019, I climbed Mt. Hakuba, Mt. Yukikura, and Mt. Asahi for two nights and three days!
The pleasure of this route is the vertical track from Mt. Shirouma to Mt. Asahi on the second day.
On the vertical track, you can see the view almost above the forest limit.
On this way, I was able to meet Ptarmigan family and alpine plants in full bloom.
Because it becomes a long route, there are few people. It is good for the person who likes a quiet mountain.
In addition, there is no business hut in the middle of the long vertical runway, so no one can help you in case of a disaster.
Train well in other mountains before trying.

Climbing without a map is dangerous. Be sure to enter the mountain with a map.
Renge hot spring – Shirouma pond
I stayed in the car in the parking lot of Renge hot spring. I start climbing at 6 o’clock the next morning.
The parking lot of Renge hot spring is a large parking lot for 70 cars. (Parking fee is free)
There was still space in the parking lot at the beginning of the mountain climbing, but it was full when descending, and some cars were parked in the forest road space.
I follow the asphalt road in front of the toilet.
Follow the asphalt road and I reach Renge hot spring in about 1 minute.
Renge hot spring is a branch point. Turn left when heading for Mt. Shriouma via Shirouma pond. Be careful because you just want to go straight ahead.
(I made a mistake and made a direct progress for about 10 minutes.)
To shirouma pond, climb through the forest zone.
It is the season of alpine plants.
This is Marubadakebuki.
From the forest zone, I can sometimes see Mt. Yukikura.
I remember coming to the Alps.
I’m going to climb Mt. Yukikura on the second day.
I found kouni-llily, which is confusing with a kuruma-lily.
The shape of the leaf is the key to distinguishing it.
I arrived at the garden of Tengu, a good observation area.
It takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes from the garden of Tengu to Shirouma-pond.
I arrived at Shirouma-pond.
It is also possible to start the curtain here, but this time I will aim further.
If you run out of water, let’s replenish it here.
This time, I was able to get the water of the tank free of charge.
Chingruma is blooming.
Next, I will aim for Mt. Korenge.
A group of chingruma.
Even alpine plants are swarming, but I’m solo.
The time is ten o’clock.
The surroundings are wrapped in gas.
In summer mountain, it is easy to be surrounded by gas around noon.
Mt. Hachi is wrapped in gas.
Iwakikyo is blooming near the rock.
(Maybe It’s Chishimagikyo)
I arrived at Mt. Korenge (altitude 2,766m)!
I aim for Mt. Shirouma via Mikuni Pass.
The gas is repeatedly removed and it hangs.
I aim at Mt. Shirouma in the back of the left side of the photograph!
(The top is not visible by gas.)
He was dancing by one bird. He is a companion of me.
I arrived at Mikuni Pass.
It is a pass that divides the three prefectures of Nagano, Niigata, and Toyama.
From Mikuni Pass, I can see the direction of Mt. Yukikura.
I’m going to walk here tomorrow.
On the first day, I will aim for Mt. Shirouma in the photo.
I arrived at the top of Mt. Shirouma (altitude 2,932m)!
Shirouma peak hut
I am going down to the campsite, Shirouma peak hut.
I went down to Shirouma hut.
It’s a bit difficult to understand, but since Shirouma hut is not an encampment, I will aim for the Shirouma peak hut.
The time is past one o’clock.
I arrived at the Shirouma peak hut.
Cumulonimbus clouds may develop and lightning may occur in the afternoon of summer mountain, so be sure to arrive at the campsite at this time at the latest.
The camp fee is 1,200 yen per person.
You can get free water drawn from the swamp.
Vending machine in hut.
Alcohol beverage is 500-700 yen.
The latest mountain trail information is posted.
If you are concerned about the condition of the mountain trail or your own equipment, listen to the resident corps.
The time changes and it is evening.
It is mountain which is illuminated by the setting sun.
Mt. Shakushi and Mt. Shirouma are illuminated sunset.
I eat dinner and get to sleep.
The first day is over.
The next day is a walk along the ridge line of the superb view through Mt. Yukikura to Mt. Asahi.
